Guild Meeting

Name:             Genre Night

Date:               24 Apr. 2019

Goals:             The goals of this meeting are two-fold.

  1. To allow guild members of the same genre to meet and discuss their writing, techniques, hardships, triumphs, etc.
  2. To identify possible topics from each genre to be presented at future guild meetings and members wishing to give a 10-15 minute talk about those topics.

Execution:      After a brief introduction and explanation of the night, members will split into genre groups at various tables, introduce themselves if needed, and talk about their genre. Some members may wish to attend different genre tables and there will be plenty of time to do this. Sometime during the discussion please come up with a list of 4-8 topics relating to your genre that you are passionate about or you feel may be of interest to the guild. Assign a member in your genre group that would be willing to talk about each topic at a future guild meeting. For instance, the Science Fiction group may pick a topic of “Truth or fiction? When have you gone too far?” Each group will turn in their lists to the emcee.

Guest:             No

Emcee:            Bob Nothnagel

Special Requirements:           “Chairs around the tables” configuration.

Timetable:

6:30 – 6:35 Getting settled, waiting for stragglers

Comments:     It goes without saying that even if we write in only one genre, we may at some point need advice from another genre. A fantasy writer may need some advice from a romance writer. Ogres fall in love too you know. Other genre topics presented during future guild meetings may help you.
